Professional Background
Mike began his public service career in the U.S. Army where he served three years honorably. Mike was hired as a firefighter for the City of Olympia in 1993 and has risen through the ranks and becoming a Chief Officer in 2015. He has served as a member of the Department’s Leadership Team in the primary capacities of Operations Chief, Fire Training Officer and Company Officer. Mike holds an Associate of Technical Arts in Fire Protection Technology and a Bachelor of Science in Fire Science Administration. In October of 2016, Mike was awarded the Chief Fire Officer designation from CPSE.

Personal Background
Mike and his wife Dena were married in Olympia in 1994. In 2006 they adopted their daughter from China.As a father and husband, Mike spends most of his time with his family, enjoying the outdoor activities and the arts.
Mike also enjoys riding his motorcycle and is a member of the Puget Sound Enduro Riders. In addition Mike enjoys hunting in the fall, skiing in the winter and working out and running throughout the year.

Mike is passionate about giving back to the community. Mike is a member of the Gateway Rotary Club, Chair of the South Puget Sound Community College’s Fire and Emergency Services Technology Advisory Board and serves on the Thurston County Communications Operations Board.
